Why CDL? Welcome to the Series

4 min read
Taylor Made TDS

A no-fluff introduction to why a commercial driver's license might be the smartest career move you haven't made yet — and what this series covers.

Truckin' serious about a career change? Good. You're in the right place.

Let's skip the motivational poster opener. You're here because something in your current situation isn't working — the job, the pay, the schedule, the ceiling, or all four. You've heard something about truck driving. Maybe your brother-in-law won't stop talking about it. Maybe you just did the math on your current paycheck and it didn't add up.

Whatever brought you here: welcome. This series is for you.

What This Series Covers

The Why CDL? series is a plain-language, no-hype guide to commercial driver's license careers. We'll walk you through:

  • Part 1: The Case for a CDL Career — job growth projections, Washington State wages, and the timeline advantage over a four-year degree
  • Part 2: CDL vs. College — The ROI Comparison (coming soon) — a real side-by-side on time, cost, and earning potential

And from there: what you need to do before day one of training (coming soon), what training actually looks like (coming soon), what your first job looks like (coming soon), what's happening in the industry right now (coming soon), and — for employers — why training your drivers is one of the best investments you can make (coming soon).

What This Series Is Not

We're not going to tell you trucking is perfect. It isn't. Long-haul driving means time away from family. Regional runs mean early mornings and tight delivery windows. The physical demands are real. Yes, there's paperwork.

What we will give you is the truth about the job, the market, and the path. You make the call from there.

Who We Are

Taylor Made Truck Driving School is a family-owned CDL school in Burlington, Washington. We're state-licensed, FMCSA-registered, and built on a legacy of safety and professional standards going back over a decade at our Burlington location. Our instructors are career commercial drivers — not people who studied trucking in a classroom. They've logged millions of miles, and they teach from that.

We're not a national chain. We're a community school that takes pride in every driver we put on the road.

You regularly hear us say we don't consider you proficient until we would trust you on the road beside our kids and grandkids in the minivan.
